Miami Airport by bus and rail: getting to Downtown, Brickell and South Beach

A low fare is useful only if the complete route works for you. Start with your hotel address, then plan the terminal connection, the right service and the last part of the journey.

Quick answer

After collecting bags and completing arrival formalities, follow signs to the free MIA Mover on Level 3 and continue to the airport transport hub. For Downtown or Brickell, check the Metrorail Orange Line and any required transfer at Earlington Heights. For South Beach, check Metrobus 150 from the airport station. Neither route automatically ends at your hotel entrance.

From the terminal to the airport station

Follow MIA Mover signs to Level 3 between the Dolphin and Flamingo garages. This free airport people mover connects the terminal with the Rental Car Center and the adjacent transport hub. It is not the Metromover in central Miami. Use Miami International Airport Station for onward transit; Downtown’s MiamiCentral is a different station. Finish baggage collection and applicable border formalities before setting out. With mobility equipment, check working elevators for the entire route, not just the first platform.

Choose the route for your actual hotel address

Downtown and Brickell are mainland destinations; South Beach is in Miami Beach. Select a destination station or bus stop that works for the correct entrance, rather than treating Miami as one drop-off zone.

Downtown and Brickell: Metrorail, then the last leg

Use the Orange Line airport connection toward the central network. Government Center is a useful Downtown interchange; Brickell is a separate Metrorail station. The operator’s information checked on 21 October 2026 says weekend Orange Line service runs only between MIA and Earlington Heights: change there to the appropriate Green Line train for Downtown or Brickell. Check weekday service and current alerts too. The free Metromover serves central Miami and may help with the last leg; choose the correct loop and operating station.

South Beach: Metrobus 150

Take the MIA Mover to the airport station and find the Metrobus boarding area; bus 150 does not collect you at the baggage-claim curb. Confirm the 150 Miami Beach Airport Express destination, service for your date and stop nearest your accommodation. Its beach corridor is not a service to every coastal hotel. Metrorail does not run directly to South Beach.

Tickets, payment and realistic journey time

Checked 21 October 2026: the published full Metrobus and Metrorail fare is USD 2.25 per person for a single ride; MIA Mover and Metromover are free. This is a public-transit fare, not our per-vehicle transfer reference. Metrorail accepts supported contactless payment, EASY Card or EASY Ticket and valid mobile passes; its fare gates do not accept cash. Cash can buy an EASY product at station machines. Check bus payment and transfer conditions separately: do not assume one payment covers every change. Add terminal walking, waiting, transfers and the hotel walk to the in-vehicle time.

From your stop to the hotel entrance

Check the final walking route with all your bags, accounting for crossings, heat, rain and the actual reception entrance. Do not turn a nearby map pin into a promised easy walk. Public-transport journey times cannot be compared directly with a road-only transfer window.

EAST Miami as a Brickell example

Use the EAST Miami hotel route page to verify which property you mean, then confirm the arrival entrance with the hotel. Choose the last station and walking route for that entrance. This guide does not promise a door-to-door rail service, a fixed walk time or a hotel partnership.

Bags, early arrival and a backup plan

Choose a route you can manage with suitcases, a stroller or mobility aids through every change. If the room is not ready, confirm luggage acceptance separately. After a flight delay, recheck the actual last onward departure. If transit no longer works, compare current taxi, ride-app or confirmed private-transport options. MIA Airport Transfer operations begin in January 2027; our booking actions remain paused until reopening.

Questions before the outward or return journey

Save the hotel address, intended station or stop, payment method and a fallback plan. Check current operator information for your actual date: this dated planning guide is not a live timetable and does not guarantee a connection.

Are MIA Mover and Metromover the same service?

No. MIA Mover is the airport connector; Metromover is the separate free system in central Miami. You cannot board the Downtown Metromover inside the airport terminal. Metrorail connects the airport station with the city network.

How should I plan the return to MIA?

Work backward from your airline’s required airport arrival time. Include the hotel walk, waiting, any train change and MIA Mover back to the terminal. On weekends, check the airport shuttle change at Earlington Heights. Do not copy the outward timing or rely only on the system’s general closing time.
